Orvinio stands on a hill around its
imposing castle belonging to the House of Marchesi Malvezzi Campeggi.
Located
at 840 meters above the sea level, Orvinio is the highest town in the Lucretili
Mountains Park. The medieval village, which can be accessed through the large
arch, still retains its old charm. It was ruled by the Benedictine monks of
Santa Maria del Piano for centuries and in 16th century became the first feudal
property of the Orsini family and then of the ducal family of Muti.
The Castle looks impressive and is surrounded by a
boundary wall resting on the rock, and consists of a complex of buildings and
towers from various eras. It was completely restored in the 20th century.
Numerous frescoes by Vincenzo Manenti can be found inside
of the interesting 16th century Madonna dei Raccomandati church.
Orvinio is 13 km away from Locanda Frullo and can be reached by car in 15 minutes.
